Even before the Alan Jackson song, I was familiar with this saying, having grown up in a family that enjoyed drinking. That’s a bawdy admission, but it’s true.
I married into a community that enjoys drinking- a hardworking, German farming community, where beer is referred to as “German sody-water”. So, it’s always 5 o’clock somewhere.
And 5 o’clock happy hour has helped me during this pandemic with something to look forward to, especially if I’ve got a Zoom happy hour set up with friends or family.
I’m not having drinks every day, just many! And I’ve had fun trying different recipes for new cocktails because that’s what I do when I’m bored- try out new recipes- go figure!
I’ve revived a fun little recipe called Tutti Fruti, a fruit slush that’s frozen and served with 7UP. It’s sort of like a punch, perfect for some of the really hot days we’ve had and that are on the way. It’s also perfect for non-drinkers and children, but equally delicious with a splash of vodka or rum.
Enjoy!
Tutti Frutti
Combine:
2 cans apricots, undrained
1 large can crushed pineapple, undrained
2 large cans peaches, undrained
2 cups strawberries, sliced
1 can frozen lemonade concentrate
7-Up
Mash up the fruit using a pastry blender. Add the can frozen lemonade concentrate and stir to combine. Freeze the mixture.
To serve, spoon fruit mixture into cup and top with 7UP. Add a jigger of vodka or rum if you like.
Yummy! I’m definitely trying this!
